HOW TO PAINT A WALL ARCH
STEP ONE – PREP WORK
Clear the space – remove all the furniture so you can accurately measure the size of the wall and where you’re going to place your painted wall arch.
Lay the floor under your work area with the Hamilton’s Supa Soaka to prevent spillage and damage to your floors (made from recycled materials, so you waste less!).
STEP TWO – MEASURE AND PREPARE YOUR ARCH
Use the string to measure the diameter of your circle, which is from one end of the circle right through to the other end. Then fold your string in half to get the radius – that half is the size of the arch – easy!
Using a pencil, find and mark off the middle of your wall, and the length of the bottom half of your painted wall arch. Use a spirit level to make sure you draw perfectly straight lines from the bottom up to the top where you want your arch to begin.
Use Hamilton’s Masking Tape to mark on the pencil lines and along the skirting board.
TOP TIP: Using Masking Tape will help you achieve crisp lines.
Once you’ve taped off the area, find the centre where you want your painted wall arch to begin, and hammer in a nail on this point with your measured string attached. Hold the string taut with a pencil on the end, and confidently draw your arch (make sure you can reach the top of the arch before you start!).
Use smaller pieces of masking tape to tape along the line of the arch so that you have seamless, crisp lines when you’re done painting.
STEP 3 – FIRST COAT
Shake your paint well and then decant it into your Velour roller tray set from Hamilton’s.
Apply the first coat of Easy Living Multi-Purpose Sheen.
This great product has the following features:
- Good durability and low odour
- Easy to clean with good scrub-ability
- Good obliteration and excellent spreadability
- Dries to a low sheen finish
- Water beading effect
- Lead free
- 8 year quality guarantee
TOP TIP: Remember to shake the product well prior to opening.
TOP TIP: Using the Velour roller ensures you do not create bubbles when applying the paint, ensuring you achieve a better, smoother finish.
Apply the paint carefully near the tape, ensuring you roll the roller in the same direction that you applied the tape, so as to not remove the tape accidentally with the roller.
STEP FOUR – APPLY SECOND AND THIRD COAT
Allow proper drying times between coats, and apply your second coat.
Use your Hamilton’s Professional 50mm brush to paint neatly along the skirting board.
Apply your third coat.
STEP FIVE – REMOVE THE TAPE
Just before the paint is dry, carefully remove the tape to reveal the crisp lines – how satisfying is that!
