This fabulous DIY painted faux headboard will give you the perfect stylish focal point in your bedroom at a fraction of the cost.
This is a really simple project that can be completed in a weekend.
What you’ll need for this DIY Painted Faux Headboard Project
- Plascon Easy Living Sheen tinted to the colour of your choice
- Hamilton’s Premium Interior Trayset. This set includes:
- Polypile roller 225mm
- Utility brush 50mm
- Drop sheet 2m x 3m
- Masking tape 24mm
- Paint tray
- Measuring tape
- Spirit level ruler
- Pencil
Step 1: Measure
Measure out your space carefully and mark off where you want the headboard to go. Remember to measure the width of your bed and then allow for space on the sides for your side-tables.
Once you’ve marked off the area, use your spirit level ruler to draw straight lines.
Step 2: Tape Off
Use your Hamilton’s Masking Tape to tape off the area and get it ready for painting. Ensure you stick the tape carefully along the straight lines you drew. This will ensure crisp, straight lines.
Tape off your skirting boards and around any light switches, plug points, etc.
Step 3: Painting
Before opening the tin of paint, give it a good shake to ensure it is well mixed.
Lay down your Hamilton’s drop sheet.
Use your Hamilton’s Utility Brush to cut in around the edges of your work area.
Once you’ve finished cutting in, pour your paint into your tray and load your roller.
Top Tip: Line your tray with a plastic packet or tin foil. This makes for easy clean up!
Top Tip: Wipe your paint roller before first use in order to get rid of any lint and fluff.
Roll the paint onto the wall in even strokes, beginning at the top and working your way down to the bottom.
Top Tip: Remember to maintain a wet edge so that the paint blends well and you avoid lap marks. A wet edge is when you ensure that the last roll of paint does not dry before you overlap it with the next.
Allow your first coat to dry and then apply your second coat, again working from top to bottom.
Top Tip: Roll at a medium pace in smooth, even strokes. This will help to avoid splatter.
Once your second coat is dry carefully peel off the masking tape, being careful not to damage the paint edge.
Step 4: Clean up
Once you’ve finished painting, clean your brushes, roller, and tray thoroughly.
Expert Tip: After you’ve cleaned your Hamilton’s brush and roller, wash them with normal dishwashing liquid and then rinse. This will extend the lifetime of your brushes and ensure they are fit for future use.
Ensure the lid is fitted nice and tight on any leftover paint.
Expert Tip: Boost the longevity of your paint by applying plastic wrap around the opened area of the can and then hammer on the lid.
