Step 1: Mask off

Mask off your door frames, skirtings and ceiling with masking tape.

Step 2: Paint

Lay down your Hamilton’s Supa Soaka mat.

Use your Hamilton’s Perfection Ensign Brush to cut in around the edges of your colour block work area.

Once you’ve finished cutting in, pour your paint into your tray and load your Velour roller.  Roll the paint onto the wall in even strokes, beginning at the top and working your way down to the bottom.

Top Tip: Remember to maintain a wet edge so that the paint blends well and you avoid lap marks. A wet edge is when you ensure that the last roll of paint does not dry before you overlap it with the next.

Allow your first coat to dry and then apply your second coat, again working from top to bottom.

Step 3: Prep the Wooden Slat Strips

Decide how long your wood strips should be, and carefully cut them to the desired size.

If you have slightly rough edges, use sandpaper to sand them so they’re neat and smooth.

Step 4: Install the Wooden Slat Strips and Paint

Use the double-sided mounting tape to fix the strips to the wall – so quick and easy!  Use the spirit level to ensure you get them perfectly straight.

Top Tip: Elle uses one of the slats as a handy spacer to ensure her slats are equidistant, giving a really professional finish.

Once you’re happy with the placement of your slats, apply two coats of your paint to really give this project dimension.

Step 5: Clean up

Once you’ve finished painting, clean your brushes, roller and tray thoroughly using Polycell Brush Cleaner.

Expert Tip: After you’ve cleaned your Hamilton’s brushes, wash them with normal dishwashing liquid and then rinse.  This will extend the lifetime of your brushes and ensure they are fit for future use.

Ensure the lid is fitted nice and tight on any leftover paint.

Expert Tip: Boost the longevity of your paint by applying plastic wrap around the opened area of the can and then hammer on the lid.
